Lanai Hawaii, also known as the Pineapple Isle. The sixth of the Hawaiian Islands. Called the Pineapple Isle because of it used to be a Island wide pineapple plantation. It only has one settlement where the vast majority of the population gather, Lanai City, the only town. The population is of around 3,500. One of the interesting facts about this island is that there is no traffic lights on the entire Island.

The Island is separated to the north from Molokai by the Kalohi Channel, and from Maui by the 'Au'au Channel to the east. The first inhabitants of the island most likely immigrated from Molokai and Maui to Lanai, and initially fishing villages were established. It was purchased by the United Fruit Company in 1922 and was developed as a Pineapple plantation, after that was phased out tourism started to become a prominent industry. There are currently to Resort and Hotels in Lanai. There is an active Ferry to Lanai transporting locals and tourists alike.

Golf on Lanai is a sought after activity since there are two world-class golf courses. One designed by Jack Nicklaus, the acclaimed golf player. In this course Bill Gates got married, overlooking the ocean.

In the Island there are no traffic lights, its a free range ride, no shopping centers, and the only public transportation is provided by a contractor to the local Lanai Hotel. Bicycles are for rent, too. A car is really not necessary, but there are four-wheel drive Jeeps available to rent for off-roading, which is one of the many attractions in Lanai.
